New Start For The Steelmen
Graham Drury is looking forward to working with the new boardroom regime at Corby Town.
After the death of Peter Mallinger, Les Manning has taken over as club chairman with Helen Thompson also in as new chief executive and Graham Starmer as a director.
Drury has his first meeting with the new board tonight and he is hoping to maintain the positive relationship with them that he had when Mallinger was in charge.
Under Mallinger, Drury was left to run the football side while the board looked after the executive and non-playing aspect of the club.
And Drury wants that arrangement to continue.
"Peter Mallinger has left big shoes to fill. He is a hard act to follow and anyone coming in knows that," he said.
"In fact, someone at Peter's funeral said he was an impossible act to follow and that is a great compliment to Peter Mallinger.
"The new people who have come in seem right and as long as they have the club at heart like Peter had and let me go about my business and let me do it my way in the dressing room then I'm sure we'll be fine.
"The key for me is that they seem to care about Corby Town and that can only be good news for everyone.
"I know Les cares about the club, he followed Peter here from Kettering and he's at nearly every game.
"So that shows to me that he has a passion for the club.
"Obviously I've never worked with Helen Thompson before but she seems a lovely girl and she obviously knows what she's doing as she showed when she was at Rushden & Diamonds so I'm looking forward to working with her.
"The most important thing for me and for everyone at the club is maintaining the legacy that Peter Mallinger put in place.
"From my perspective, that means going out there each week and trying to get three points every time we play.
"That's not always possible but it won't be from lack of trying every week.
"I said to the lads before we played Stafford to go out and do it for the chairman and they responded with a 5-3 win.
"So we'll be out there again against Eastwood on Saturday looking for the same sort of performance again and whether we get the same sort of result or not, it won't be from lack of trying on our part."
