Corby Town 2-3 Nuneaton Town

Corby Town suffered defeat on their return to action in the Blue Square Bet North as they let slip a two-goal lead. In a genuine game of two halves, the Steelmen dominated the opening period and deservedly led 2-0 at the break. But Nuneaton were a different team in the second half as they mounted a superb comeback.

Both Corby goals came in the opening 11 minutes. They took the lead in the second minute when Andy Burgess' corner caused confusion in the box before the ball rolled over the line. Adam Webster claimed the final touch for his first goal in Corby colours.

If the first goal was messy, there was no doubt who got the second as Andy Hall fired home a low shot after neat build-up play down the left. And the Steelmen could have had a third before the break when Steve Towers' pass released Ben Mackey. But the striker could not dig the ball out from under his feet and his shot was weak.

Nuneaton offered little in attack, save for a couple of early shots wide. And a bad first half for them was compounded soon after Hall's goal when Stuart Pierpoint was stretchered off with a broken knee after an innocuous challenge.

However, it was the visitors who started the second half the better and they got back into it on 49 minutes when Pierpoint's replacement Eddie Nisevic got away down the left and pulled the ball back for Adam Walker to finish.

Hall had a golden chance to restore Corby's two-goal lead on 56 minutes when he pounced on poor back-header from Gareth Dean, but shot wide.

And the Steelmen were made to pay on 66 minutes when Danny Spencer equalised for Nuneaton with a volley from Lee Moore's cross.

Both Spencer and Nivesic shot narrowly wide for Nuneaton soon after, while Glenn Walker had a shot saved for the hosts.

But Nuneaton completed their turnaround on 75 minutes when Guy Hadland headed home their winner from corner.
