Drury Slams Side After Two Dropped Points

Corby Town manager Graham Drury slammed his side after they failed to win at home to Stalybridge Celtic, despite a two goal half time lead. The Steelmen faithful were left to rue missed opportunities again as they watched their team throw away their advantage. In 2011 alone Corby have led Nuneaton Town, Hinckley United, Guiseley, Vauxhall Motors and now Stalybridge Celtic at the break, however have only picked up 3 points out of a possible 15 from these games.

Frustrated Drury could not hold back his frustration and pulled no punches in his damning verdict of this latest setback.

“That is definitely a case of two points dropped yet again, it is embarrassing.”

“There were extremely tired legs at the back for us today, old legs, too old. They didn't like the space in behind them and ended up sitting on the 18 yard box. This meant the midfield ended up sitting too deep allowing pressure onto us.”

“They pumped the balls forward and picked the seconds off it, and exploited us. When they got possession we gave them too much time to spray the ball around. The first half game plan was, closest man to the ball get pressure on it and keep good shape in behind, which we did extremely well and got a well deserved 2-0 lead, which could have quite easily been 4-0.”

"Lets not lie about it we should have been 4-0 up at half time and we had 4 good chances in the second half too. We have created eight chances today and that's not half chances, they were good chances. One on ones and we were blazing them over or hitting the keeper."

"The centre forwards are all “goalscorers” yet they couldn't score great chances. It doesn't matter who it is, whether it's Webster, Diggin, Jarman or Walker they are lacking composure one-on-one. They should be taking these chances at this level of football."

"Their goalkeeper made a great save against Andy Hall at 2-0 but second half all in all we were a totally different side, we just reverted to sitting deep and playing long balls."

"My gameplan was right today, we played it for the first 45 minutes and should have been 4-0 up at half time. We went out to carry on the same plan second half, but fell apart. We should not be dropping points with a 2-0 lead at the break at home, but yet again we have."

"We got beaten 7-2 last week because we didn't defend properly and that happened again today and has cost us points as a result."

"I know what I have got to do and I know who I need to replace, and trust me if a lot of them weren't on contract they would be out this week. But they are tied up to the club until the end of the season and my hands are tied. I have got to work with them until then, but if I'm honest I do not want to be working with some of them at the moment. They aren't listening or learning simple lessons and are costing us points like today as a result."

"This season is turning into a damp squib, we are not going to make the play-offs now and we are not going to get relegated. We will not be bringing new players in, because we do not want to needlessly waste money. There may be some more young players coming into the side as we have a look to the future and next season but that's it."
