Corby Town 3-0 Salisbury City

Corby Town made history by reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time since 1967. Two second-half goals from Nathan Jarman and another from Ben Mackey were enough for the Steelmen to see off the spirited challenge of lower-league outfit Salisbury City.

Both sides took it in turns to enjoy spells of pressure in the first half.

The Steelmen threatened early as Steve Diggin flicked a header wide.

But the visitors then began to get on top in midfield and put pressue on the Corby goal as Charlie Knight had a free-kick blocked and City player-manager Darrell Clarke had an attempted lob held by Steelmen keeper Chris Mackenzie.

Chris Giles was even closer on 24 minutes when his header was cleared off the line by Steve Towers.

However, two minutes later, it was Giles who cleared off the line as he kept out Richard Lavery's header.

And Corby ended the half more on top as Ben Mackey had a shot saved by City keeper Tommy Smith.

Smith denied Corby – and Mackey – again early in the second half as he brilliantly stopped the striker's header on the line.

However, there was no stopping Steelmen substitute Nathan Jarman's superb free-kick on 63 minutes as he fired the home side ahead.

Jarman almost doubled the advantage five minutes later but his curling shot was well saved again by Smith.

But the Steelmen did get their second goal on 75 minutes when Andy Hall's delightful cross was slid home at the far post by Mackey.

And the home side had chances to add to their lead as Hall, Jarman and Steve Towers were all denied in one attack on 87 minutes.

But Jarman made sure of Corby's progression when he fired home their third from close range on 88 minutes.
