Drury: "Enjoy The Winning Feeling"
Graham Drury wants Corby Town to make sure they keep up some good habits in the FA Cup this weekend. The Steelmen face Zamaretto League side Salisbury City in the fourth qualifying round with a place in the first round proper – and the chance of drawing an npower Football League side – awaiting the winner.
And with that in mind, Drury feels his
side have rediscovered the art of winning at just the right time.
"Winning is a great habit, in fact it's everything you need for a team," he said.
"Winning is not just three points or getting through in the cup – it's confidence, it's enjoyment, it's wanting to be out there playing football, it's wanting to be on the ball all the time.
"And football is so easy when you're winning, it really is."
The Steelmen go into the Salisbury game on the back of two successive home wins, over Worcester City in the cup and Gainsborough Trinity in the Blue Square Bet North last weekend – their first three points since the end of August.
But while he was pleased to see his side coming out on top again, Drury argued that the Steelmen had not been as bad as some have been suggesting.
"People have talked about recent results but I don't think we've been in a lull or a bad patch.
"We had an indifferent performance against Guiseley but that was something of a one-off.
"We were up against a team flying high and full of confidence and the fact we had to make a lot of changes to our side that day didn't help.
"But if you take that one out and look at the last six or seven games, the results haven't been that bad."
"We had to dust ourselves down after Guiseley, have a think about it and then move on.
"We lost 4-0 at Southport last year and 4-2 at Fleetwood and we came back well from those results.
"So perhaps Guiseley was the kick we needed.
"I wouldn't say we're now in an amazing run or anything like that, we've come out of that game stronger and playing better as the last two results show."
