Steelmen Draw Salisbury City in FA Cup
Once again Corby Town have been attracting wider media attention this week. ITV were at Rockingham Triangle last weekend to feature the Steelmen in their FA Cup tie with Worcester City.
And, if they've any sense, it won't be too long before their next visit.
Not only did they get a cracking game with classic cup finish
they also could be on to one of the first real stories of the season in this year's competition.
Andy Hall's dramatic injury-time winner means the Steelmen are now just one win away from reaching the first round proper for the first time since they went to Boston United back in 1968. Everyone connected with Corby will be hoping for a rather bigger fish this time around (no disrespect to Boston).
However, before any chickens are counted, there is the small matter of getting past Salisbury City in the fourth qualifying round at the Triangle on Saturday 23rd October, after the two sides were paired together in today's draw.
A potential tie with one of the Football Leagues big boys lies in wait for the winners; with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Charlton and Plymouth coming in at The First Round Proper.
The Steelmen are currently 9th in the Blue Square North, beating Bedworth United and Worcester City to reach the fourth qualifying stage.
Salisbury, who were demoted from the Blue Square Premier last season due to a breach of Conference rules, lie 4th in the Zamaretto League with games in hand, have beaten Highworth Town, Sholing and Weston-super-Mare to reach this round.
The Steelmen are just 90 minutes away from the First Round Proper of The World's Most Famous Cup Competition, a round that they haven't reached since 1967/68. The last time they featured in a 4th Round Qualifying tie was in 2007/08 when we were beaten 2-1 by Droylsden at The Rockingham Triangle.
The best cup run in Corby Town's history came during the 1965/66 season, where the club beat Luton Town at Kenilworth Road to reach the Third Round Proper. The FA Cup dream ended with a defeat away at Plymouth however in that round.
