Drury Full Of Pride
Corby Town have been handed a potential glamour tie at Charlton Athletic in the second round of the FA Cup. The Steelmen will travel to the npower League One outfit if they can beat Luton Town in their first-round replay next week and the Addicks can get through their replay with Barnet.
And Corby boss Graham Drury felt the draw was a great one for his side.
"It's a great draw for the club and potentially a huge day for us which is what it's all about," he enthused.
"We've still got a very tough task ahead of us at Luton but the prospect of a possible game with Charlton, one of the biggest teams in the draw, is all the incentive we'll need to go there and finish the job."
Corby were seven minutes away from having the job finished at the first attempt before Luton snatched a late equaliser.
And Drury admitted he was frustrated that his side had not seen the job through.
But he was also proud of his players after they matched the efforts of their higher-league opponents.
"It's frustrating, of course it is, because we wanted to get into the second round at the first attempt," Drury continued.
"They didn't cause us too many problems and, to be fair, we didn't cause them a great deal either.
"But our centre-halves stood up their two strikers well and we had a gameplan that we stuck to. It worked really well and we were seven minutes away from round two.
"But I'm very proud of my players and while I'm disappointed we didn't win the game. I was proud of my players' desire and they way they stood up to the task.
"The support was great too and it's just a shame we aren't already through to the next round.
"But I saw nothing to scare us in the game and if we can make sure we use the ball better when we've got it in the replay and perhaps be a little less naïve in some areas, I think we can hurt that team."
