Full House Set To Roar Steelmen On in FA Cup Clash
A capacity crowd of over 2000 will be packed into The Rockingham Triangle Stadium for tomorrow's FA Cup First Round tie with Luton Town, looking to roar The Steelmen to a famous victory.
The last of the Corby Town tickets were purchased early on Friday morning, meaning that the all ticket contest has completely sold out. Cup fever has really hit Corby this week, with fans flocking to the new Corby Cube to purchase tickets in their droves.
Fans are in a buoyant mood and confidence is high that the Steelmen could cause an upset.
Chris Mallender, chief executive of Corby Council, said: "I'm looking forward to a good day out, a 2-0 Corby victory, and a win against Sheffield Wednesday in round two.
"I think Luton will expect us to pump the ball in behind and then hassle them but I think we will beat them playing 4-4-2, with two good wingers and a couple of small mobile forwards playing good football.
"I've only missed one Corby game this season and I think we're a good footballing side."
Dave Tilley, a fan since 1974, was excited about the match.
He said: "I'm definitely looking forward to it. Corby are doing well at
home and I think we've got a good chance.
"I think Luton will put us under pressure right from the off and it will be up to the defence to hold out. Then the longer it goes on the more chance Corby will have.
"I'd love to get through and draw somebody like Southampton in the next round."
Only a handful of standing tickets remained for the game at close of business yesterday and none will be available for sale on the day.
Corby's only previous victory against a league side came against Luton
in the FA Cup in the 1965-66 season when the Steelmen won at Kenilworth Road after a replay.
Members of the winning Corby team have been invited to attend the game on Saturday.
Club chairman Peter Mallinger said: "I'm not nervous, I just want them to kick off now and get started.
"I've got a lot of confidence in our lads.
"It's great for the town. The more big games we have the more people will get used to coming to the ground.
"Our new stadium will make a real difference to the club and we are hoping to have games like this every season."
