It All Cheques Out At The Rockingham Triangle
Local people in Corby have scored another major sporting boost with the announcement that they are getting a cash injection of £354,974, which includes £204,974 from the Football Foundation and £150,000 from the Football Association, towards the next part of the development of Rockingham Triangle.
The funding will go towards totally refurbishing the existing pavilion along with some new build which will accompany the modern new football stadium that is nearing completion. The pavilion will include six purpose built Football Foundation standard changing rooms, two official rooms, a medical room and a meeting room. This second phase in the development will add the facilities needed to the development for Rockingham Triangle to become a place where grass roots football can flourish.
Corby Borough Council were presented with a large cheque by the Football Foundation at 2pm on Tuesday 14th December at Rockingham Triangle Stadium, Rockingham Road, Corby.
Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government via Sport England, the Football Foundation is the nation's largest sports charity. Launched in July 2000, the Foundation celebrates its tenth anniversary this summer and has so far supported around 8,000 community sports projects worth £930m.
The new football stadium at Rockingham Triangle is due to be completed by 18th December 2010 with predictions that the first match to take place on the pitch will kick off next season. Now with the funding in place, plans for the pavilion can progress and work is expected to start on the project in Spring 2011.
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said:
"This funding is excellent news for the Corby area. Corby Borough Council and the County FA deserve credit for their hard work in making this happen."
Kirsty Frior, County Development Manager for Northamptonshire FA said:
'The development of Rockingham Triangle has been a priority for the County FA for some time now. It is a testament to the Borough Council's commitment to providing top class sporting facilities and shows that it can be achieved even in these times of austerity. This is a real boon for football and in particular it will provide the Charter Standard community club, Corby Kingswood, with a purpose built hub for years to come.'
Local junior football club, Corby Kingswood Juniors, will directly benefit from the improved facility. They too are helping to fund the development and are contributing £20,000 to the project.
Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Pat Fawcett, said: "We would like to thank the Football Foundation and Corby Kingswood Juniors Football Club for their support in the development of Rockingham Triangle. Once completed it is going to be a first class sporting facility and will help develop our grass root teams right through to our semi-professional Steelmen.'
Steve Legg Chairman of Corby Kingswood Football Club said:
'I would like to thank Corby Borough Council and the Northamptonshire Football Association in their support for our club, special thanks goes out to all our committee, managers, parents and players for their support and the continuous growth of the club. This development will give Corby Kingswood Football Club long term security for years to come and the potential to maintain a high standard which it has already achieved with the Community Charter. The Partnership with Corby Town FC and Corby Athletics will be unique in the Sporting world.'
The Steelmen are also looking forward to the further developments of Rockingham Triangle. Peter Mallinger said:
'The news that the Football Foundation and County FA are supporting us once again is marvellous news. Refurbishment of the pavilion is essential to the progress of the football club and the development of the community side together with Kingswood Football Club will enable Corby Town FC to benefit from the ongoing plans.'
